Thompson School District Names New Principals ….. Villager Newspapers, Friday, 7/10/15

Megan Baker, Principal TMHSThe Thompson BOE named Megan Baker as principal of Tourtellotte Memorial High School.  Baker takes over for Dan Pisaturo, who announced his retirement this spring.

“I am very excited,” Baker said.  “In the past few years I have learned so much from Dan and from all the members of our administrative leadership team.  I’m eager to work with our teachers and staff, our families and students, as well as our alumni and greater community, to continue building upon what we already have — a great school.”

Since 2013, Baker, of Canterbury, has been the pre-K to 12th grade curriculum director, and the part-time assistant principal at TMHS, Thompson Middle School, and the Mary Fisher Elementary School.  She has also held administrative leadership internships in the Ellington, Canterbury, and Killingly school systems.

Baker holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Stonehill College, a master’s degree in special education from Southern Connecticut State University, and earned an advanced degree in educational leadership from the University of Connecticut.

Tina Chahanovich, Principal Thompson Middle School
The Thompson BOE named Tina Chahanovich as principal of Thompson Middle School.  Chahanovich takes over for Ron Springer, who resigned early this month.

“I am excited to continue working with the students, parents, and staff of Thompson Middle School,” Chahanovich said.  “I appreciate all the support that has been shown to me during the last three months.  I look forward to working with the students, staff, and parents to provide the best middle school experience for each and every student.  I am confident that we will continue to provide excellent opportunities for all students. Thompson Middle School is a great place, and I am honored to be a part of it.”

Since 2009, Chahanovich, of Dayville, has served the district as K-8 Literacy Coach and K-12 Curriculum Coordinator.  She was the assistant principal at Mary Fisher Elementary School for the 2014-15 school year and had been serving as interim principal of Thompson Middle School since April.

Chahanovich has an advanced degree in educational leadership and administration from Sacred Heart University.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and fine arts from Eastern Connecticut State University, and earned her master’s degree in education from the University of Connecticut.
